India complete turnaround to win vintage Test against England | England v India 2021

India completed a remarkable turnaround to skittle England out for 210 and win a brilliantly entertaining fourth Test at the Oval on Monday.

Pursuing 368 to win the game, a bigger fourth-innings target than any England side has ever achieved, the home side struggled badly as India ripped through the middle order.

England’s hopes of a record-breaking chase on the final day of the match started to look in trouble early on when India took two wickets and kept the run rate firmly in check, but any serious chance they had was scuppered just after lunch when Ollie Pope, who had top-scored with 81 in the first innings, lasted just 11 ball and made two.

He was soundly beaten by Bumrah, who forced one between bat and pad with just enough pace and seam movement to send his stumps sprawling. India had assumed control at 146 for four and once Joe Root was bowled by Shardul Thakur for the fall of the seventh wicket, the hosts’ fate looked set. The final two wickets fell after tea to give India a victory by 157 runs and a 2-1 lead in the series with one Test left to play.
